Rare and stunning Wedgwood Jasperware beehive pot with attached underplate in sage green. Both the lid and the vessel show four classical Jasperware scenes. The lid has a small opening for a spoon while the inside is glazed to prevent the condiments from staining the ceramic. The rim of the pot has a small chip and the underplate has a hair line (both as pictured), but besides this the object is in very good condition. The underside shows the name "Wedgwood", as well as "England". The country name was only added to pieces after 1891, whereas from 1908 forward the designation 'Made in England' was adopted. The two visible letters, 'R' and and illegible marking, are not part of the often cited three letter date code, but act as a potter’s identification mark for quality control or size reference. All this leads to a solid 1891-1908 dating for this piece.
