Gerald Norden. (1912-2000) - Melon, Grapes and Carafe

I am offering for auction a superb and fine 20th century oil on board titled Melon, Grapes and Carafe, by renowned British artist Gerald Norden, 1912-2000. Signed and dated 1990 bottom left. In an attractive painted frame. The painting measures 35 x 29.5 cm. The frame is 51 x 45 cm. Condition of the painting is good. Please view all photos for accurate condition. Ready to hang. Painter, writer and teacher, born in London. His original name, under which he initially exhibited, was Gerald van Noorden, but he changed it by deed poll prior to World War II. He studied at 8 Thanet School of Art under John Moody and Royal College of Art, gaining his diploma in 1937, notably under Gilbert Spencer. Went on to teach at Sidney Cooper School of Art, Canterbury, 1942–7; was acting principal of Maidstone School of Art, 1947–8; then principal of Dover and Folkestone School of Art, 1948–71. As well as articles in art magazines he wrote A Practical Guide to Perspective. Norden was a regular RA exhibitor and had a series of one-man shows at Trafford Gallery, King Street, Newburgh Street and Catto Galleries. He was known for his still lifes in oil, usually small and painted with great precision. Please note. Due to the fragile nature of old frames and glass, our shippers do not provide insurance for any damage caused during transit. We go to great lengths to ensure each painting is packed and protected to a very high standard but sadly cannot compensate or refund for any damage occurring to frames or glass during transit. Therefore the frame and any glass is a gift to you with zero value and you are bidding on the artwork only. Due to Brexit, there are delays at EU customs borders though the situation is improving. Please do not blame me for delays or any customs duty payable. I really appreciate your understanding and patience. Steve.
