Vase - Keramik - Japan - Yokoishi Kasuke (13. Generation) - Nagasaki Sansai (Ohne mindestpreis)

横石嘉助 Yokoishi Kasuke (13th Generation) This elegant vase was crafted by the 13th Generation Yokoishi Kasuke, a distinguished master potter based in Mikawachi (Mikawauchi), Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. The piece exemplifies the celebrated tradition of Nagasaki Sansai (長崎三彩) — a distinctive three-color glazed ceramic technique rooted in the ancient Chinese Tang Sancai style, as revitalized and refined by the Yokoishi lineage of the Hirado / Mikawachi kilns. The vase features a graceful, elongated silhouette with a subtly flared neck and rounded body, adorned in the signature Nagasaki Sansai palette of rich earthy greens, warm ambers, and cream white flowing glazes. The interplay of the three colors is achieved through carefully controlled glaze application and kiln firing, creating an organic, painterly effect unique to each piece. Mikawachi ware, produced in the Sasebo area of Nagasaki Prefecture, has a history spanning over 400 years and has been prized by the Hirado Domain lords, European traders, and tea ceremony practitioners alike. The Yokoishi Kasuke lineage has been central to the preservation and evolution of the Nagasaki Sansai tradition, blending classical Tang Dynasty influences with refined Japanese craftsmanship. This vase serves beautifully as a display piece or ikebana flower arrangement vessel, adding a touch of authentic Japanese ceramic heritage to any interior. Size: Approximately Height: 34 cm Width: 17 cm Weight Approximately 2500g Condition This item is in used condition with some minor scratches and light surface soiling consistent with age and prior display use; no chips or cracks are noted. Artist Profile 横石嘉助 Yokoishi Kasuke (13th Generation) The name "Yokoishi Kasuke" is a hereditary title passed down through the Yokoishi family of master potters in Mikawachi (Mikawauchi), Nagasaki Prefecture — one of Japan's most celebrated ceramic lineages. The family is best known for the revival and development of Nagasaki Sansai (長崎三彩), a three-colored glazed ceramic tradition inspired by Chinese Tang Dynasty Sancai ware. The founding generation, Kasuke Yokoishi (1891–1983), was born in Mikawachi and began studying ceramics at the age of 13. He later studied under the renowned artist Kenkichi Tomimoto and also worked at the Kakiemon kiln. After the war, he established his own kiln in Mikawachi, where he dedicated himself to researching and perfecting the Sansai technique, drawing from both Tang Sancai and Nagayo Sansai traditions. His work earned wide recognition and set the foundation for subsequent generations. The 13th Generation Yokoishi Kasuke continues this prestigious tradition at the Mikawachi kiln in Sasebo, Nagasaki, producing works that carry forward the family's signature three-color glaze artistry while maintaining the highest standards of Hirado / Mikawachi porcelain craftsmanship.
