Claude Monet (1840–1926) (after) - "Nymphéas, 1916-19"

- Claude Monet (after), "Nymphéas, 1916-19". Offset print on heavyweight smooth satin paper (approx. 300gsm, refers to paper thickness/density). - Signed in the plate. - Stamp on verso. - Condition: excellent. Never framed, never exposed. - Size: 60 x 80cm. - Nymphéas (1916–1919) by the French Impressionist master Claude Monet belongs to the celebrated Water Lilies series, one of the most influential achievements in the history of modern painting. Created in the artist’s garden at Giverny during the final decades of his life, these luminous compositions depict the tranquil surface of a pond covered with floating lilies, shimmering reflections and soft atmospheric light. Rather than presenting a traditional landscape, Monet transforms the water’s surface into an immersive field of color, movement and light. During this late period, Monet moved beyond the earlier principles of Impressionism toward a more expansive and expressive approach to painting. The brushwork becomes freer and more fluid, dissolving the boundaries between water, sky and vegetation. In works such as Nymphéas, the horizon disappears entirely, allowing the viewer to experience the scene as a continuous environment of reflections and color vibrations. This radical compositional approach would later influence the development of modern abstraction. Monet’s late water lily works had a profound impact on twentieth-century art. Their emphasis on atmosphere, color and gesture inspired generations of artists, from modern innovators such as Henri Matisse and Wassily Kandinsky to the large-scale abstract environments created by painters like Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock. Monet’s exploration of perception and immersive space helped bridge Impressionism and later abstract movements. Today, the Nymphéas remain among the most admired works in the global history of art. Monet’s vision of nature as a constantly shifting field of light continues to inspire artists and collectors alike, admired alongside modern masters such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Salvador Dalí, and still resonating with contemporary cultural figures including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Banksy and Andy Warhol, whose works continue to shape the international art market today. Artists of similar importance: Miró, Hockney, Lichtenstein, Warhol, Banksy, Brainwash, Delaunay, Nara, Soulages, Lagasse, Ramos, Coa, Lautrec, Klimt, Hirst, Chagall, Koons, Haring, Indiana, Mondrian, Groening, Richter, Monroe, Herrera, Laurent, Klein, Kusama, Murakami, Testa, Villemot, Oldenburg, Hopper, Ripolles, Wesselmann, Magritte, Jenk, Orlinski, Wille, Rizzi, Manara, Thiebaud, Kaws, Valentino, Cappiello, Rothko, Dalí, among others.
