Shionamimakiekinrinjinatsume 汐波蒔絵金輪寺棗(しおなみまきえきんりんじなつめ)|Michiba Munehiro 道場宗廣(みちばむねひろ)
Kinrinji natsume refers to the shape of the tea caddy. Its origin dates back to the Nanboku-cho period, when Emperor Go-Daigo practiced at Kinrinji Temple in Yoshino and had tea utensils made from nearby ivy wood. This work depicts waves and splashing water, with a golden makie "Chidori" (plover) painted on the inside of the lid.
Artist Profile:
Michiba Munehiro is a lacquer artist born in the Yamanaka lacquerware production area of Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture. He studied under his father and has been involved in the production of Yamanaka-nuri lacquerware for over 30 years.
