An exceptional and very rare fetish sculpture, made in Burkina Faso by the Bobo Fing tribe. The Bobo people have lived in western Burkina Faso for centuries and are believed to be one of the oldest groups in the area. A central tenet of the Bobo belief system is maintaining and restoring the balance of the world, as initially set up by Wuro. These balances, such as male/female, village/nature, and cold/hot, are fragile and humans easily disrupt them in their everyday existence. This is an exceptionally fine and rare fetish, made of a large piece of wood with a carved face showing geometric lines. It is wrapped in traditional fabric and embellished with cowrie shells.
