A papier-mâché lacquer pen case (qalamdan) from the Qajar period (19th century), decorated with hand-painted miniature portraits and fine vegetal ornamentation.

The exterior is adorned with three oval medallions, each depicting figures in traditional Qajar attire, rendered with detailed features and warm tones. The surrounding surface is densely decorated with scrolling floral and arabesque motifs.

The interior is finished in black lacquer.
The underside and side panels are decorated in red with gold-painted ornamentation, creating a strong visual contrast.
