The large seated cat is depicted raising one paw in the traditional welcoming gesture associated with prosperity, good fortune, and the invitation of happiness and customers into the home or business. Beneath the larger figure sits a smaller kitten, adding warmth and character to the composition and emphasising themes of protection, family, and abundance. The sculpture displays a bold yet endearing folk-art style, with exaggerated rounded forms, deeply carved facial features, and a rich patina developed over time. The visible carving marks and natural wood grain further enhance the handcrafted character of the piece. The ears and paws are accented with incised fur details, while the broad facial expression gives the sculpture a particularly distinctive presence. Hand-carved wooden Maneki-neko figures from this period are increasingly sought after for their sculptural quality and strong decorative appeal, combining traditional Japanese symbolism with rustic artisanal craftsmanship. Fair to good antique condition with wear, scratches, rubbing, cracks, and uneven varnish-like surface areas consistent with age.
