Die Geschichte und Handwerkskunst, die in Vintage-Schmuck steckt – präsentiert von {name}

Type of jewel: Vintage antique diamond brooch

Condition: In well-preserved condition, especially given the jewel’s age. The centre of the brooch appears to incorporate an earring from the same period, while the silver brooch fitting at the reverse is a more recent adaptation.

Style: Vintage antique

Era: ca. 1860

Material: Gold backed silver. The fineness of the gold at the reverse cannot be established by touchstone testing, as the layer is too thin to test reliably. Based on the jewel’s design, a Belgian origin seems plausible, which would make 18K gold possible, though not certain.

Technique: The rose cuts are set on foil. This is a ancient technique that was used to bring the lustre of the diamonds to its best quality. This is being done by placing in the closed mounting under the diamond a highly polished cone of silver foil.

Diamond(s): 29 senaille and rose cuts. A senaille is a simplified rose cut diamond, a small diamond chip with perhaps a few polished facets.

- We understand that private buyers may expect diamond weights to be provided, but in the case of rose-cut or senaille diamonds, this is simply not standard practice among industry professionals specialising in antique and vintage jewellery. Unlike brilliant-cut diamonds, where weight correlates with diameter, rose cuts vary in thickness, making weight estimation impossible once set. Providing such figures could lead to unnecessary debates, as rose-cut diamonds were traditionally valued for their visual effect rather than intrinsic worth. Even major auction houses like Sotheby’s and Christie’s rarely list their weight, except for exceptionally large stones, where diameter is often provided instead.

- All diamonds, regardless of their size or shape, in our vintage and antique jewellery are verified as 100% natural by the IJGC laboratory.

Birth and month stones: Diamond is the birthstone (or month stone) for April.

Hallmarks: No trace.

Dimensions: 4,75 cm (1,87 inch) x 2,57 cm (1,01 inch) - See picture with a ruler in cm and inches

- Antique and vintage jewellery may show evidence of past repairs or restoration, reflecting normal wear and period use. We present pieces in an authentic state and do not routinely remove surface marks or apply rhodium plating to white gold. If you prefer a brighter finish, you may choose a cosmetic refresh by a local goldsmith.
