The seated mother cat is portrayed with a calm and content expression, while one kitten raises its paw in the traditional welcoming gesture associated with good fortune and prosperity. These lucky cat figures have long been treasured in Japan as protective talismans believed to invite wealth, happiness, successful business, and good luck. The composition has a warm and affectionate atmosphere, with the two kittens nestled closely beside the larger figure. The rounded forms, expressive faces, and softly polished surface give the sculpture a particularly appealing folk-art character. Visible hand-carved details and the rich dark patina further emphasise its handmade quality. An especially distinctive feature is the large hat worn by the central cat figure, tied beneath the neck with a carved cord. The rear of the hat is decorated with geometric incised patterns, adding visual depth and decorative balance to the composition. Good vintage condition with wear and minor blemishes consistent with age and use. Please refer to the photos for details. Dimensions: approx.
