Hocker – Bamileke – Kamerun – leichtes Holz – 1960er (Ohne mindestpreis)

Stool – Bamileke – Cameroon – Lightweight wood – 1960s Details Origin: Bamileke people Country: Cameroon Material: Lightweight wood, assembled construction, fibre / lashing elements Dimensions: 37 x 34 x 35 cm Period: 1960s Provenance: Collected in situ by the present owner in the early 1990s Description A fine old Bamileke stool from Cameroon, built in an assembled construction of lightweight wood rather than carved from a single block. This example is especially appealing for the intelligence of its construction. The cylindrical elements are carefully stacked and interlocked to create a compact, architectural form, while the slatted top and discreet fibre lashings complete the structure with both economy and elegance. Comparable Bamileke stools are documented as assembled rather than carved, which supports the attribution and highlights the technical interest of this type. The stool has developed a very attractive old patina, with warm brown tones and surface wear consistent with age and long use. What is particularly noteworthy is its structural integrity: examples of this type are often damaged or loose, whereas this one remains complete and stable, which is increasingly uncommon. Beyond its ethnographic interest, the piece has strong sculptural presence. Its open construction, balanced proportions, and modular rhythm give it a striking visual clarity. A very attractive Grassfields stool, appreciated for its rarity in this state of preservation, its fine patina, and its unusual assembled construction. Condition Wear, abrasions, minor surface irregularities, and small age-related marks consistent with use. Overall structurally intact, which is uncommon for this type. Please refer to the photographs. Included The stool only.
