Paar handgefertigte zeremonielle Rindenstücke - Papua Neuguinea (Ohne mindestpreis)

Beautiful pair of ceremonial barkcloths from the Lake Sentani region of Papua New Guinea, entirely handmade according to traditional indigenous techniques. Crafted from the fibrous inner bark of local trees, the cloths were produced by beating and softening the bark into a flexible textile surface before being decorated with hand-painted tribal designs using natural pigments. Each piece presents a distinct artistic composition while sharing the characteristic visual language of Sentani barkcloth art. One barkcloth is decorated with a dynamic arrangement of spirals, concentric forms, and flowing curvilinear motifs surrounding a central symbolic figure. The composition is executed in warm earthy tones of ochre, burgundy, black, and white, creating a visually striking and highly decorative work. The second barkcloth features a more geometric composition, centred on symmetrical motifs framed by multiple ornamental borders. The balanced design and strong graphic contrasts exemplify the refined aesthetic traditions of the Sentani peoples. Among the communities of Lake Sentani, barkcloth artworks such as these were traditionally associated with ceremonies, social exchanges, and important cultural events, where they served both decorative and symbolic purposes. Both pieces display the characteristic texture of hand-beaten barkcloth, with visible fiber structure, irregular edges, folds, and natural variations that testify to their entirely handmade manufacture. Minor wear, small imperfections, and age-related marks are consistent with traditional production techniques and use. A striking pair of Oceanic tribal artworks, ideal for collectors of ethnographic art, tribal interiors, primitive art, and Wunderkammer collections. Dimensions: 57 × 55.5 cm 54 × 54 cm Thickness: approximately 0.2 cm each.
