5-Schubladen-Japanische Paulownia-Kommode mit originalen Eisenbeschlägen - Holz - Japan - Shōwa Zeit (1926-1989)

Item Description: This is a Japanese antique maekiri kodansu (前桐小箪笥), a compact chest of drawers featuring five drawers, from the Showa period (approximately mid-20th century). The piece is crafted with kiri (paulownia) wood panels on the drawer fronts — a hallmark of fine Japanese cabinetry — prized for its lightweight yet durable properties and natural resistance to moisture and insects. The chest measures a versatile compact size ideal for storing personal accessories, textiles, or small valuables. It features five stacked drawers, each fitted with traditional iron lock hardware and decorative drawer pulls (hikite) that retain the warm patina of age. The original metalwork, including lock fittings, lends an authentic period character. This type of small chest — known variously as makura-dansu (pillow chest) or temoto-dansu (bedside chest) — was a common furnishing in Japanese homes of the early to mid-20th century. Pieces of this kind are increasingly sought after by collectors of Japanese folk furniture and wabi-sabi interior enthusiasts worldwide. No key is included. The chest functions well as a decorative and practical storage piece. Size Height: 57.5 cm Width: 59 cm Depth: 28.5 cm Weight: 10,550 g / 10.55 kg Condition Shows age-related wear including scratches, staining, and cracking to the side panels, back board, and base, consistent with its vintage status; all five drawers open and function without issue, and the piece is fully usable as-is. NOITICE: This item is large and will be shipped via Japan Post surface (sea) mail. Delivery takes at least 3 months, so please be patient and do not open a claim during this period. Please note: Surface mail is not available for the following countries: Spain / USA / Ukraine / Kazakhstan / Kyrgyzstan / Croatia / Georgia (Géorgie) / Sweden / Tajikistan / Denmark (incl. Faroe Islands) / Germany / France (incl. Corsica, Andorra, Mayotte) / Belarus (Bélarus) / Malta / Romania / Russian Federation / Belgium If your shipping address is in one of these countries, we must use an alternative method (extra cost) or cancel the order. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included and are the buyer’s responsibility. Your local customs or delivery service may contact you via phone or email for clearance procedures. Please ensure you can respond. If unanswered, the parcel may be returned, and re-shipping will cost more than double. Thank you very much for your understanding and cooperation.
