Up for auction is a premium pairing of two certified, high-grade regional and provincial Chinese banknotes representing the crucial financial history of the Republic era. This lot provides a complete view of both the obverse and reverse sides, allowing for absolute verification of their condition and authenticity.
The first banknote is an elite 10 Cents issue from the Amoy Industrial Bank, dating from around 1940. The face features a beautiful green architectural vignette of a traditional Chinese pavilion gateway on the left, while the reverse displays a highly detailed dual-panel layout showing '10 CENTS' and Chinese characters over an intricate guilloché pattern backdrop with bright red serial numbers. It has been certified by PMG at a spectacular 66 Gem Uncirculated EPQ grade, boasting flawless paper freshness, original sheen, and outstanding centring.
The second banknote is a 1949 10 Cents issue from the Kwangtung Provincial Bank, printed by CHB during a period of monumental historical transition. The front displays a central portrait oval of Dr. Sun Yat-sen framed by an elegant violet security border, while the reverse showcases an ornate brown-toned view of Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall in Guangzhou, flanked by large numeral 10s. This piece is certified by PMG at a high 64 Choice Uncirculated grade, presenting superb eye appeal on both sides.
Together, these notes make an exceptional addition for any collector specialising in Chinese provincial currency, Republic-era history, or high-grade numismatic investments.
