Multifunktions-Megalodon - Fossiler Zahn - 8.85 cm - 6.1 cm (Ohne mindestpreis)
3.48 inch (8.85 cm) long x 2.4 inch(6.1 cm) wide Megalodon tooth from Indonesia
Usually the collectors prefer large size teeth. However, there are certain small teeth which are incredibly beautiful and the presented tooth is exactly one of them. Not only its size, but its features very nice and unique fossilization colors as well. The fossil is predominantly white in color with a touch of beige coloration and prominent yellow-orange regions both in the enamel of the fossil as well in the root region. This is due to presence of Iron compounds during fossilization process. The whiteness in the fossil is probably associated with Aluminium salts during the fossilization process and the white lines or streaks are due to interaction of plant roots and plant material during the fossilization from Miocene around 5.3Million - 23 Million year time span. Contrary to popular belief, some Megalodon teeth can have weakly visible remanent cusps. This fossil is one of them as one can see those weak or vestigial cusps. One should keep in mind , that Megalodon cusps are much less prominent than Chubutensis, so if the cusps are somewhat prominent then its Chubutensis not the Megalodon.
The serrations of the fossil are in excellent shape. The root of the tooth is fragile and some regions are somewhat sandy. A side of root has been carefully rebonded with glue and some additional glue drops have been dropped on potential weak regions of the root to prevent it from eroding during handling. No extra material have been added except for the glue drops and the whole toot is intact and in pure state.
