A very bronze patinated cast iron okimono 置物 of a tiger 虎 (tora), placed on a lacquered dai 台 (base). The tiger is naturalistically cast in a dynamic pose, lunging forward with a fierce open-mouthed roar, its long tail extending gracefully behind. The finely modelled musculature and expressive face capture the animal’s power and vitality embellished with piercing yellow glass-inlaid eyes. The surface is finished with a bronze brown patina with a few red streaks along its body. Placed on a black lacquered base with comma-shaped ends and one side accentuated with red-and black negoro-nuri-style lacquer.
