Vase - Steinzeug - Japan - Bizen-Tokkuri, signiert – Fujiwara Yu 藤原雄 (1932–2001)

# Fujiwara Yu (1932–2001) – Living National Treasure – Bizen Ware Sake Flask (Tokkuri) – Signed, with Original Tomobako A powerful yet warm sake flask by Fujiwara Yu, one of Japan's most celebrated Bizen masters and a designated Living National Treasure. Hand-formed in the unglazed Bizen tradition, the tokkuri is fired without glaze for many days in a wood-burning kiln, allowing flame, ash and embers to paint the surface naturally. The result is a richly varied skin of earthy brown and amber tones, scattered with the prized *goma* (sesame) ash effects and natural fire-colour — no two pieces are ever alike. The generous, rounded body tapers to a small mouth with a quiet, confident presence that embodies Yu's motto of "simple, clear and bold." A refined work by an internationally collected master whose pieces are held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the British Museum. The base bears the artist's incised seal, and it comes complete with its original signed wooden box (tomobako) — essential for serious collectors of modern Bizen ware. 【Artist Profile】 Fujiwara Yu (1932–2001) was born in Bizen, Okayama, the eldest son of Bizen Living National Treasure Fujiwara Kei. Encouraged by Fujio Koyama, he studied under his father and rose quickly, winning the Grand Prize at the Barcelona International Ceramics Exhibition in 1963. He served as visiting professor at Dartmouth University and tirelessly introduced Bizen ware to the world. In 1996 he was designated a Living National Treasure (Important Intangible Cultural Property) for Bizen ware — making the Fujiwaras the first father-and-son pair in history to both hold the honour. Works by Fujiwara Yu are no longer in production. This is a finite body of work. 【Condition】 Excellent. Minor signs of age commensurate with careful storage. Comes complete with its original signed wooden box. 【Shipping】 Carefully packed and shipped internationally with full tracking for safe delivery. 【※Important Information – Please Read Before Bidding※】 Customs duties, VAT, and import clearance fees are not included in the shipping cost and are the responsibility of the buyer. These charges vary depending on your country's import regulations and are beyond the seller's control. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. All items are carefully packed and promptly shipped with tracking to ensure safe delivery. Please bid with confidence.
