Vase - Porzellan - Japan - Kürbisförmige Vase Blau-Weiß (Ohne mindestpreis)

Title: Hexagonal Double-Gourd Blue & White Auspicious Vase, Japanese Arita Ware, With Original Tomobako Box Ware Type: Arita Porcelain (有田焼) Artist: Tessai (哲斎) Dimensions: H 19.5 cm (7.68 in) × Max W 16.5 cm (6.50 in) Weight: 771 g Tomobako Box Dimensions: H 16.5 cm (6.50 in) × W 20 cm (7.87 in) × D 17 cm (6.69 in) Material: High-fired hard white porcelain, hand-painted underglaze blue, brown glazed rim Period: Mid-to-Late Showa era, circa 1960–1970 This auspicious double-gourd hexagonal flower vase is hand-painted by Japanese Arita porcelain craftsman Tessai (哲斎), supplied with its original paulownia tomobako storage box and soft fabric cloth. The base bears an underglaze blue mark "Tessai (哲斎)". The lid of the wooden box carries brush calligraphy "Auspicious Flower Vase (祥瑞花瓶)", signed "Tessai (哲斎)" with a red artist seal. The signatures on vase and box match perfectly, offering complete traceable provenance. Arita ware is Japan’s iconic blue and white porcelain tradition, celebrated for its smooth milky white glaze, steady cobalt blue tones and meticulous hand-drawn decoration, widely valued among Asian antique collectors. Craftsman Tessai specialised in traditional Arita blue and white painting, focusing on auspicious folk motifs. This piece follows authentic mid-Showa painting aesthetics, featuring precise, fluid brushwork and well-balanced composition, representing fine craftsmanship of its era. The rare segmented hexagonal double-gourd shape stands neat and balanced; the gourd form symbolises fortune and longevity in East Asian culture. Vertical raised ribs divide the body into segmented panels with varied hand-painted scenes: pine, bamboo, rooster, magpie, mountain landscapes, boats and pavilions, interspersed with coin patterns and endless knot fretwork as decorative borders, creating rich, well-proportioned layers. The mouth rim is finished with a thin brown glaze band for delicate detail. The porcelain glaze is glossy and smooth, with rich, consistent cobalt blue pigment and natural hand-painted texture. Hand-fired underglaze blue porcelain with intact, lustrous glaze and natural vivid cobalt colour. Only faint minor age wear is visible on the unglazed base foot. There are no cracks, chips, glaze flaking or restorations anywhere on the vase. The matching paulownia box shows natural vintage patina and remains fully complete. Overall condition is good relative to its age.
