Schwarz- und Rot lackierter Bambus-Blumenkorb — Fukuoka Rantai-Shikki mit herausnehmbarer Einlage - Bambus, Lack - Japan - 1900–2000

Item Description This striking flower basket (hanakago) is a masterpiece of Japanese bamboo craft from Fukuoka Prefecture, one of Japan's most celebrated regions for rantai-shikki — a refined lacquerware technique applied directly onto a woven bamboo core. The basket features a dramatic dual-lacquer finish in deep black (kuro-urushi) over an undercoat of vivid vermilion (shu), so that brilliant red lines blaze through every gap between the meticulously woven bamboo strips, creating an effect of extraordinary visual depth and energy. The body is fashioned in a rounded, globe-like form, its lower half densely woven in a precise herringbone (aya-ami) pattern that grounds the piece with geometric solidity. The upper section opens into a bold open-work lattice through which sweeping arched ribs radiate dynamically, converging at the crown in a sculptural, almost architectural arrangement. Two large circular arching handles, bound at their crossing point with tightly coiled lacquered bamboo, rise above the body and interlock in an elegant, dynamic composition. A removable cylindrical black lacquer liner (inner tube) is included, allowing the basket to be used as a functional flower vase while preserving the integrity of the bamboo structure. This piece exemplifies the sophisticated tradition of Fukuoka bamboo craftsmanship, where the interplay of structure, lacquer, and light produces an object that is simultaneously a utilitarian vessel and a work of sculptural art. It is an ideal centerpiece for ikebana (Japanese flower arranging) or as a standalone decorative object in any interior. Size Height: 17.5 cm Width: 20 cm Depth: 20 cm Weight 167 g Condition The basket is in good vintage condition with minor signs of age-related use; small surface scratches and slight dust are visible on close inspection but do not detract from the overall appearance. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
