Große Steinzeugvase 'Black Form' - Steinzeug, Keramik - Yamamoto Seinen 山本正年 (1912–1986) - Japan - Anno 1948, Shōwa-Periode
A monumental stoneware vessel by Yamamoto Seinen 山本正年 (1912–1986), titled Kuro'yô 黒容 ("Black Form"), exhibited at the 3rd Nitten Exhibition 第3回日展 in 1948.
The exceptionally large and heavy vessel is inspired by the form of a chawan 茶碗 (tea bowl), with a broad cylindrical body that subtly narrows at the waist before swelling gently towards the base. It is covered in a deep lustrous black glaze.
The underside is left unglazed and impressed with the artist's two-character seal.
The vessel is accompanied by its original signed and sealed tomobako 共箱 (storage box), inscribed with the title and noting its exhibition at the 3rd Nitten Exhibition. Also included is the original exhibition postcard.
