Kabazaiku Kirschrinden-Zweistöckige Kommode — Traditionelles japanisches Handwerk - Holz - Japan - 1900–2000

Item Description This is a charming small Kabazaiku chest of drawers, a traditional Japanese craft technique originating from the town of Kakunodate in Akita Prefecture, northern Japan. Kabazaiku involves the meticulous application of thin sheets of wild cherry tree bark (yamazakura) onto a wooden base, creating a warm, richly mottled surface with natural variegated tones ranging from deep chestnut brown to golden amber. The technique dates back over 200 years and is recognized as one of Japan's most distinctive traditional crafts. This particular piece features a two-tier drawer configuration: two smaller drawers side-by-side on top and one larger drawer below, all fitted with sturdy black iron bail handles with decorative rosette-shaped mounts. The exterior is entirely clad in cherry bark veneer, showcasing the natural bark texture and grain patterns that make each piece unique, while the drawer interiors and sides are finished in lighter, untreated wood, offering a pleasing contrast. The piece would have traditionally been used for storing small personal items, jewelry, or stationery, and today serves equally well as a decorative accent piece or a compact storage solution with genuine craft heritage. Size Height: 19.5 cm Width: 26 cm Depth: 17.5 cm Weight 1750 g / 1.75 kg Condition The piece shows light general wear consistent with careful use, with no major damage; the cherry bark veneer and lacquer finish remain in good, presentable condition throughout. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone.
