Judaica - Steel, Judaica - enamel plaque with Hebrew inscription “Synagogue” - 1910-1940
Judaica - enamel plaque with Hebrew inscription “Synagogue”.
The table was purchased from a scrap yard in Warsaw in the 90s of the last century.
The manufacturing technology is hot enamel on steel.
Time - most likely the beginning of the 20th century
At the moment there is no way to say on which street this sign was hanging.
The plate is slightly convex.
I can say that the table is made of good metal, modern signs don't last that long.
Or good enamel.
I kept the sign in a room with a constant temperature and low humidity, otherwise the sign could have rusted.
During the Second Republic (1921-1939), there were about 3,500,000 Jews living in Poland. After the German invasion, all synagogues were closed. About 130,000 synagogues were burned. The rest were intended for other purposes completely unrelated to the cult. Any recollection was blocked. Everything that concerned Jews was destroyed. This concerned the signs there, if anything has been preserved, it is simply an accident. After the war there were only 100,000 Jews in Poland. Some synagogues were restored, but not all. Now you can find Synagogue using Google, but there are no such pointers.
