Each crab is integrally cast via traditional Japanese lost-wax casting, then refined with hand-chased carapace textures, a mainstream bronze craft technique popular during that era. The pincers and eight legs are solid cast with segmented shaping to recreate authentic natural crab anatomy. Fine hand-chased layered shell patterns adorn both the upper and underside of each carapace. Marks are chased on the belly of both crabs, yet the characters are worn faint and unrecognizable. The crab is a timeless auspicious motif in Japanese folk culture, representing unobstructed fortune and wealth from all directions. Displayed as a matching pair, it additionally symbolizes double blessings and smooth luck. It works well both as a tea table ornament and a decorative desk piece for appreciation.
