Prime Minister Award-Winning Artists Creative Kokeshi Pair, 2 Dolls Item Description: A set of two Japanese sosaku kokeshi dolls by two respected creative kokeshi artists. The smaller doll is titled 木洩れ日 (Komorebi, "sunlight filtering through trees") by Miyajima Muhitsu. It is an ambitious work that uses burned decoration to create an ink-painting-like expression. The bamboo grove is rendered with a quiet, sumi-e-inspired atmosphere. An artist seal is present, although it has become faint. The larger doll is titled わらべ (Warabe, "child") by Miyashita Hajime. Rather than burned decoration, this piece is notable for its painted brushwork. The hair is especially distinctive: instead of the plain black hair often seen on creative kokeshi, the flowing brushstrokes give the figure a soft and expressive character. Both pieces show age-related wear, including scratches, scuffs, stains, and surface marks. Please review the photos for condition details. Artist: Miyajima Muhitsu was a Yonezawa, Yamagata-based creative kokeshi artist born in 1929. He is known for distinctive designs and received the Prime Minister's Award. His artist mark is recorded as Muhitsu / Miyajima Muhitsu. Miyashita Hajime was a Maebashi, Gunma-based creative kokeshi artist born in 1940. He received the Prime Minister's Award four times, along with other major awards, and is regarded as an important figure in the creative kokeshi field. Size & Weight: Smaller doll: 16.5 × 7.5 × 7.5 cm, 384 g Larger doll: 19.5 × 9.5 × 9.5 cm, 429 g Keyword for search: Japanese folk art / modern kokeshi / sumi-e style / bamboo motif / child doll / hand-painted wooden doll / Yonezawa / Gunma Good condition. While overall in good condition considering their age, they may show slight signs of wear and minor dirt. Please refer to the photos for a closer look. NOITICE The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx, depending on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally.
