Item description This elegant Kutani incense burner (koro) is decorated in a rich red-and-gold brocade style, with a crackled ivory ground bearing hand-painted medallions of birds, flowers, and figures of Chinese sages, framed by fine geometric key-pattern borders. The pierced, dome-shaped lid allows fragrant smoke to escape through petal-shaped openings, topped with an ornate gilt band. The base is marked with a red seal reading Kutani Izumiyama, identifying the kiln district of origin within the Kutani region. The accompanying tray is finished in vivid red lacquer, decorated with a gold-painted bird perched on a plum branch, with a black lacquer reverse. Together, the set makes an elegant display piece, pairing a finely decorated incense burner with a coordinating lacquer tray.
