Wissenschaftlicher Kompass - Metall, Messing, Glas - USHIKATA - Japanischer Vermessungskompass

History / Description A visually striking Japanese surveying compass by USHIKATA, Tokyo, Japan, presented with its fitted leather carrying case. The instrument features a large circular compass dial with a 360-degree graduated scale, an articulated green-painted metal frame, brass-toned graduated components and mechanical adjustment fittings. The dial is clearly marked “USHIKATA – TOKYO JAPAN” and displays several patent numbers. Its precise mechanical appearance, exposed graduated scales and distinctive industrial green finish give the instrument a strong mid-20th-century scientific and industrial character. Originally designed as a surveying instrument, it is now equally appealing as a collectible example of Japanese precision equipment and as a highly decorative scientific display object. Collector Appeal Vintage Japanese scientific and surveying instruments are particularly attractive for collectors of precision equipment, industrial design and technical antiques. The combination of the USHIKATA Tokyo marking, visible patent numbers, mechanical measuring scales and fitted leather case gives this piece a strong and authentic period appearance. A characterful display piece for a collection of scientific instruments, surveying equipment, Japanese industrial design or vintage technical objects. Condition Vintage condition with visible signs of previous use, age and handling. The painted metal surfaces show wear, small losses to the finish and areas of oxidation or patina. Brass-toned components show age-related discoloration. The leather case has scratches, marks, wear and general signs of long-term storage and use. The compass needle moves and responds when the instrument is rotated and generally settles toward north. Surveying accuracy and calibration have not been tested. No professional servicing or precision testing has been carried out. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.
