ITEM: Samurai Armor — Description Helmet (Kabuto) The helmet bowl (hachi) is finished in a deep lacquered maroon-red with prominent vertical ridges (suji), giving it a ribbed, dome-like appearance. It is crowned with a gilt decorative cap (tehen kanomono). The most dramatic feature is the large gold crescent moon ornament (maedate) — a wa (ring) or mikazuki (crescent) shaped kashira adornment — mounted prominently at the front, symbolizing power and spiritual authority. The brim (mabizashi) is finished in beaten gold leaf. The neck guard (shikoro) consists of multiple horizontal lamellar rows in the characteristic gold-and-navy lacing pattern. Face Mask (Mengu / Sōmen) The face mask is a darkly lacquered iron piece of intense, fearsome expression — a classic ressei (angry expression) type. It features sculpted facial features, a rendered mustache with real hair details, and red-painted lips with visible teeth. A padded white chin guard (oshitsuke no ita) is wrapped around the lower face. The mask would have served both protective and psychological purposes on the battlefield. Chest Armor (Dō) The cuirass is constructed in the hon kozane (true small scales) lacing technique, with hundreds of individual gold-lacquered scales (kozane) laced together with navy blue silk cords (kebiki-odoshi), creating the distinctive alternating gold-and-dark striped pattern visible across the entire suit.
