It is made in the classic Kutani five-colour hand-painted style (九谷焼五彩手), a representative craft technique of the Shōwa period. Five mineral glazes (green, yellow, red, indigo, purple) are applied in layered coats, creating a thick, mellow glaze finish paired with delicate, neat sculpting work. The piece features the traditional auspicious dragon-and-pearl motif. The dragon coils among swirling clouds with full, vivid shape and clearly defined scales and claws, surrounding a central pearl. Fully hand-sculpted with no mass-produced moulds, it boasts a dense, solid ceramic body. Multi-layer antique glazes blend naturally with soft colour gradients; the cloud and dragon forms possess prominent three-dimensionality matched with elegant lines, reflecting the tranquil wabi-sabi (侘寂) aesthetic of Japanese craft. A red ink handwritten craftsman’s signature mark is preserved on the base. The item is supplied complete with its original tomobako box and textile wrapping cloth. Minor natural discoloration and storage abrasion are visible due to age; there are no chips, cracks or restorations, and its overall condition is good for its age.
