The left side features a lattice-style glass door secured with a decorative iron latch and hinge, opening to reveal a spacious interior with an adjustable shelf. The right side houses five graduated drawers fitted with classic ring and bail pulls, each corner reinforced with sculpted black iron mounts in traditional Japanese tansu style. Below the glass door sit two wider drawers, one of which is fitted with a lock. Opening the drawers on the right side reveals a delightful surprise: several of them are lined with vivid red velvet and fitted with small internal compartments, traditionally used for storing jewelry, small treasures, or other precious items. This playful "karakuri" (trick) detail is a hallmark of Japanese craftsman ingenuity and adds a charming element of discovery to an otherwise classic form. The rich reddish-brown wood grain of the zelkova is complemented beautifully by the matte black hardware, giving the piece a warm yet dignified presence suited to both traditional and modern interiors.
