Victorian Sterling Silver Bonbon Dish by Martin, Hall & Co. – London, 1893
An elegant Victorian sterling silver bonbon dish by the renowned Martin, Hall & Co., hallmarked in London, 1893. Martin, Hall & Co. were among Sheffield's most respected silversmiths during the Victorian period, celebrated for producing finely crafted silver with exceptional decorative quality.
This beautifully pierced bonbon dish features richly embossed floral decoration, scrolling foliage and intricate openwork panels surrounding a plain central well. The crisp chasing and finely executed piercing are characteristic of the firm's high standard of craftsmanship and give the piece an impressive presence despite its modest size.
The dish is fully hallmarked with the Martin, Hall & Co. maker's mark, the London Assay Office leopard's head, the sterling silver lion passant, and the 1893 date letter, all clearly struck and illustrated in the accompanying photographs.
Presented in very good antique condition, with only light age-related surface wear consistent with careful use over more than 130 years. No significant damage, repairs or alterations observed.
A fine and highly decorative example of late Victorian English sterling silver by one of Britain's distinguished nineteenth-century silversmiths, equally suitable for the collector or for elegant display.
