Description
This remarkable metal object reflects the tradition of a decorated medieval lock escutcheon. Its oval body, elongated central opening and rounded upper terminals demonstrate how a functional fitting could also be designed as a decorative element.

The front is ornamented with engraved lines and circular motifs known archaeologically as ring-and-dot decoration. Frequently encountered in medieval metalwork, this composition creates a strong visual rhythm and may also be associated with continuity, completeness and protective symbolism.

The object was most likely produced from bronze or a copper-based metal alloy, although precise material identification would require scientific analysis. Its dark patina, traces of wear and mineral deposits preserve its distinctive historical character.
