Nähset (6) - Antiker Silber-Fingerhut

Russian Imperial Silver Thimble, 84 Standard, “R.B.” Monogram, c. 1900 An attractive Russian Imperial silver thimble, made of 84 zolotnik silver (875/1000) and dating from approximately 1900–1908. The thimble has a finely worked dimpled body with decorative relief ornamentation around the shoulder and lower rim. The combination of the traditional sewing-thimble form and refined silverwork makes this a charming example of Russian Imperial period craftsmanship. The side of the thimble bears an elegant engraved “R.B.” monogram within an ornamental cartouche. This is most likely a personal or presentation monogram and adds an individual historical character to the piece. The object bears a Russian Imperial kokoshnik-type silver hallmark with the fineness mark “84”, corresponding to 875/1000 silver. An interesting possibility is a connection with the Vilna/Vilnius silversmith R. B. Begak, whose documented marks include the initials R.B. and whose activity is associated with silver production in Vilna around the turn of the 20th century. However, the maker's attribution cannot be considered conclusive from the visible marks on this particular thimble, and the initials may instead represent the original owner's or recipient's monogram. Details Object: Antique silver sewing thimble Origin: Russian Empire Period: circa 1900–1908 Silver standard: 84 zolotnik / 875 silver Hallmark: Russian kokoshnik-type mark with “84” Monogram: “R.B.” Decoration: Dimpled body with ornamental relief borders Possible location: Vilna/Vilnius Possible connection: R. B. Begak — not conclusively attributed Condition: Good antique condition, with natural signs of age and use, minor surface wear and patination A particularly appealing small-format example of Russian Imperial silver, combining an authentic period hallmark, decorative craftsmanship and a personalized monogram. An interesting piece for collectors of Russian Imperial silver, Vilna silver, antique sewing implements and miniature historical objects. Important: The attribution to R. B. Begak is presented as a possibility rather than a definitive maker attribution.
