An impressive matched pair of English Whieldon Ware “Canton” vases by F. Winkle & Co., Staffordshire, dating to circa 1908–1911. Each vase stands approximately 22cm high and features a dramatic black ground richly decorated with vivid peonies, flowering branches and stylised rocky landscapes, complemented by geometric borders and gilt-edged flared rims. The transfer-printed outlines are enhanced with colourful enamel decoration, creating the appearance of Chinese export porcelain while remaining distinctly English in manufacture. Both retain strong, vibrant colours and are presented in excellent antique condition, with only minimal age-related wear. Each bears the printed Whieldon Ware “Canton” factory mark to the base. A particularly decorative and well-preserved pair from the early 20th-century fascination with chinoiserie.
