Vase - Steinzeug - Japan - Celadon-Glasur - Kiyomizu-yaki, Kyoto - Morino Kakō (1899–1987)

Item Description   This work is a celadon-glazed "crane-neck" (tsurukubi) vase created in the tradition of Kyoto's Kiyomizu ware. The artist is Morino Kakō (1899–1987), a ceramicist and Japanese-style painter born in Higashiyama, Kyoto, also known by his art name "Heian Kakō."   The form — flowing from a slender, elongated neck into a rounded body — speaks to Morino's refined sensibility for color and form. The mouth diameter is approximately 7 cm, and the widest point of the body measures approximately 14.2 cm. The foot ring is unglazed, revealing the warm clay body beneath, and the base bears an incised mark reading "嘉光" (Kakō).   Morino initially studied Japanese-style painting before turning to ceramics, training under his father, a Kiyomizu ware potter, where he developed his skills in celadon and oxblood glazes. He became renowned for his mastery of salt glaze (en'yū) and green-glaze kiln-change (midori-yū yōhen) techniques. In 1963, he received the Japan Art Academy Prize — one of Japan's most prestigious art awards — for a salt-glazed three-legged vase submitted to the Nitten exhibition. In his later years, he served as a Nitten councillor and was named a Person of Cultural Merit by the City of Kyoto.   This work comes with a tomobako (a wooden box signed and sealed by the artist himself).   Dimensions   Height: 26.5 cm   Width: 13 cm   Depth: 13 cm   Weight 1,127 g   Condition The vase has no major damage and is in generally good condition. Minor signs of age-related wear and light scratching are present, but these do not significantly detract from the overall impression.   Additional Information   Artist: Morino Kakō, art name "Heian Kakō"   Place of origin: Kyoto Prefecture (Kiyomizu ware)   Material: Porcelain with celadon glaze   Provenance: Accompanied by a tomobako signed by the artist himself   NOTICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and shipped via DHL.
