After Jules Moigniez (1838-1894) - Skulptur, Setter with Rabbit - 22 cm - Zweifarbiges Bronze mit goldenen Highlights

Striking French bronze sculpture depicting a hunting setter standing alert over a rabbit concealed beneath the naturalistic vegetation. The composition is a recognised animalier subject by the French sculptor Jules Moigniez (1835–1894), renowned for his highly detailed studies of hunting dogs, game birds and other animals. Moigniez was a pupil of Paul Comolera and exhibited at the Paris Salon and Exposition Universelle. This example is particularly attractive for its two-tone finish, combining a darker patinated surface with bright golden/coppery highlights on selected areas of the sculpture and naturalistic base. This type of contrasting finish is documented on examples of Moigniez’s Setter and Rabbit model. A specialist example is described as having a dark brown patina with golden highlights. The sculpture bears a clearly legible “J. Moigniez” signature on the naturalistic base. The Setter and Rabbit composition is well documented in the international art market. Christie’s has catalogued a French bronze of the same model, signed J. Moigniez and dated to the second half of the 19th century. The model is also represented in specialist collections and has appeared through major auction and antique dealers. About the seller The Collector’s Eye Every item I offer has been chosen for one simple reason: I would be proud to own it myself. The Collector’s Eye is built on the belief that beautiful objects deserve to be lived with. Rather than specialising in a single category, I curate a carefully selected collection of original paintings, decorative art, vintage writing instruments, luxury accessories, art books and timeless objects that combine craftsmanship, character and lasting aesthetic appeal. Each piece is chosen not only for its quality and authenticity, but also for its ability to enrich an interior. Whether displayed in a private collection, a thoughtfully designed home, a boutique hotel or a professional interior design project, every object is selected to bring warmth, atmosphere and personality to its surroundings. I am particularly drawn to objects that tell a visual story: expressive Mediterranean paintings, elegant French interiors, vintage European design, quality writing instruments, luxury lighters, Art Nouveau, Napoleon III, and carefully crafted decorative objects that have stood the test of time, as well as historical portfolios and prints. Every item is photographed honestly, described carefully and packed with the same attention I would expect when buying for my own collection.
