Magnifico Scalloped Anglo-Indian Sculpted Coffee Table in Camel Shape – Rare Circular Top and Removable Neck (Late 19th / Early 20th Century)

Exotic Charm and Colonial History: The Raj Britannico in its Splendor.
I present at auction a piece of exceptional craftsmanship: a classic and majestic Anglo-Indian: a hand-carved camel-shaped occasional table. Dating to the period between the late 19th and early 20th century, this masterpiece is the perfect example of colonial craftsmanship developed in the north and west of India (likely in the Gujarat region or near Simla, the historic summer capital of British India).

Tables of this quality and value were often imported to Europe to furnish bourgeois drawing rooms of the era, sometimes marketed by famous luxury emporiums such as Liberty of London. The design depicts a camel adorned with a bridle standing, carved in the round with impressive realism, proudly supporting on its back the circular top, enriched with drapery, cushions and floral saddle decorations finely incised.

Technical Details, Rarity and Features: Origin and Style: Colonial Anglo-Indian Craftsmanship (Raj Britannico era, 1858-1947). Material: Solid hardwood (typically teak, rosewood or walnut), chosen for durability and to allow deep and detailed carvings. The Circular Top (Rarity): Unlike most similar models that feature a polygonal top, this specimen has a rare circular top (Diameter about 38 cm), richly decorated with a central floral rosette and a refined relief-perimeter band.

Unique Mechanism (Removable Neck): The real peculiarity of this lot is an ingenious structural solution: the neck and head of the camel are removable thanks to an ancient but precise guiding system (wooden rail). An engineering detail rare to facilitate transport during long colonial journeys. Base: All rests on a solid ellipsoid (or shaped) decorative base, which gives the piece great stability and a dramatic presence. Indicative dimensions: Overall height including a slight protrusion of the camel’s head about 60 cm; without the small projection about 57 cm. Total length including neck and head about 55 cm; just the table about 51 cm. Overall width about 38 cm as well as the diameter of the top. Weight about 8.6 kg.

The table comes from an exclusive family inheritance. Being an antique piece with over a century of history, it is offered in excellent structural condition and boasts a magnificent patina of time. In the recent past it has been entrusted to an expert craftsman for a rejuvenation and conservative polishing of the wood, aimed at enhancing details without erasing the history. There are obviously small and physiological signs of time and use (clearly visible in the extensive photo gallery), which do not impair its beauty but, on the contrary, certify its absolute authenticity and vintage charm. It is an extremely solid, stable piece with a huge visual impact.

Considering the delicacy and antique value of the lot, I guarantee professional custom packaging, extremely ample and protective. The table (taking advantage of the safe removal of the neck through its guide) will be packed with bubble wrap and other materials useful for safety. Shipping is entrusted exclusively to international premier carriers (UPS / DHL or similar) with tracking code. To ensure maximum peace of mind for the buyer, the lot will travel with full insurance included on the winning value.
