Item Description This is a traditional Japanese small tansu (tabletop chest of drawers) crafted by Takayama Keyaki Kogei, known as a traditional craft of Hida-Takayama (Gifu Prefecture). Takayama is a region long celebrated for its woodworking and joinery craftsmanship. The piece is made from keyaki (Japanese zelkova), prized for its bold, flowing grain that shifts in character depending on the light. The front features a traditional three-tier configuration: three small drawers in the upper section, two medium-sized drawers in the middle, and one wide horizontal drawer at the bottom, for a total of six drawers. Each drawer corner is fitted with black decorative metal hardware, and cast arabesque-patterned pulls are attached, faithfully reproducing the design found in authentic mingei tansu. Despite its compact size, it is well suited for storing small personal items such as accessories, watches, and stationery.
