A distinctive large antique/vintage Turkmen flatwoven rug, probably associated with the Yomut (Yomud) Turkmen weaving tradition of Central Asia. This is an unusual and highly decorative piece featuring a dense all-over geometric design with repeated small diamond and tribal motifs. The rug is predominantly decorated in traditional deep red, terracotta, dark blue, turquoise/green and ivory tones. The construction appears to be a Soumak-type flatweave, giving the rug its characteristic textured appearance and making it quite different from an ordinary pile carpet. It measure 330 x 210 cm ( 10.8 x 6.8 ft ) and pssibly made around the late 19th to early 20th century. The attribution is based on the design, colour palette and weaving construction. I have described it conservatively rather than making an unsupported precise tribal or geographical attribution. Condition Generally in good condition with signs of localised wear commensurate with the age and usage, Both ends Kilims are remarkably in fabric original condition and salvages also original and in good sold condition. There may also be loose threads and minor losses consistent with the age and condition of the piece.
