Vintage Japanese Takaoka Bronze Art Vase Gold & Copper-Tone Decorative Finish Showa Period – Japan This elegant Japanese art vase is a traditional Takaoka metalwork piece from Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, one of Japan’s most important centres of metal craftsmanship. The vase is accompanied by its original leaflet titled “About Takaoka Bronze Ware” and its original storage box. The leaflet identifies Otani Kisaku Shoten of Takaoka City, a company associated with Takaoka bronze and metal art crafts. Takaoka metalworking has a history of more than 400 years, beginning in the early Edo period. Over the centuries, the region developed from the production of practical cast-metal objects into an internationally recognised centre for decorative bronze and metal art. The vase has a classical Japanese form with a rounded body, narrow elongated neck and flared mouth. Its surface features a rich copper-brown colour combined with extensive gold-tone decoration and darker abstract patterns, creating a deep and luxurious appearance. The decorative surface changes subtly depending on the viewing angle and lighting, giving the vase a particularly attractive presence as an interior art object. Takaoka copperware was officially designated as a Traditional Craft of Japan in 1975. Period: Showa period. The exact production year is unknown. Based on the accompanying materials, packaging and overall presentation, this appears to be a vintage piece, possibly dating from the later Showa period. Condition: Unused / new old stock.
