【Product details】
A refined set of two Japanese ceramic tea caddies (chaire) for the traditional tea ceremony, each accompanied by a decorative silk pouch.
The first is a shoulder-shaped Katatsuki tea caddy by Juzan Fujisaki (藤崎寿山), a ceramic artist from Mt. Hiko, Fukuoka. It features a rich brown iron glaze with a striking flowing glaze effect and a finely finished unglazed foot. Fujisaki studied under Hassen Takatori XIII and later established his own Hiko kiln. He was recognised as a Traditional Craftsman in 2002. This piece comes with its original signed wooden storage box.
The second tea caddy is modeled after the celebrated “Rikyu Marutsubo” form associated with tea master Sen no Rikyu. Its rounded body is covered in a glossy dark glaze with a contrasting pale flowing ash glaze across the shoulder. This piece does not have a wooden box.
Only one lid is included for the two tea caddies. The lid is made of resin in an ivory-style finish with gold leaf on the underside and fits both pieces due to their matching opening size.
Good to very good vintage condition overall with minor signs of use. The silk pouches show some age-related fading. Please examine the photographs carefully for the overall condition.
※Important: For Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Monaco and Portugal, orders of €150 or less cannot currently be shipped due to the new €3 customs duty/IOSS issue.
