### Description This is a magnificent and intricately crafted Japanese bronze incense burner (Koro) modeled after a traditional samurai armor (Yoroi) and helmet (Kabuto). The top lid functions as the Kabuto helmet, adorned with a formidable Oni (demon) face maedate (crest) and kuwagata horns, designed to ward off evil spirits and signify strength. The body of the burner details the protective cuirass and lacing of samurai armor, featuring chrysanthemum family crests (Kikumon) along the bottom skirt (kusazuri). When incense is burned inside, the smoke gracefully rises through the openings of the helmet, creating a dramatic and serene visual presentation. With its solid construction and rich dark patina, this piece makes a fine addition to any collector's display of Japanese metalwork or samurai motif artifacts. ### Samurai Armor, Kabuto & Oni Motifs: Cultural Background * Samurai Armor & Kabuto: Symbolizing courage, protection, and honorable warrior tradition in Japanese culture. * Oni (Demon) Maedate: Intended to intimidate enemies on the battlefield and serve as a talismanic protector against bad luck and misfortune. ### Condition In good vintage/antique condition with natural signs of age, including light surface wear, rubbing, patina, and minor oxidation consistent with age.
