Japanisches Set aus zwei Hängerollen – Zen-Kalligraphie „松老雲閑“ & „和敬清寂“ - Papier - Seishu Sawada/Kaiun Takebe - Japan - 20. Jahrhundert

[ Short Description ] A set of two traditional Japanese hanging scrolls featuring Buddhist calligraphy by Seishu Sawada and Kaiun Takebe. The first scroll features the Zen phrase “松老雲閑” (Shoro Unkan), written by Seishu Sawada, head priest of Shunko-ji Temple of the Nanzen-ji school of Rinzai Zen Buddhism. The phrase means “The pine grows old, and the clouds drift peacefully.” It evokes the image of an ancient pine tree standing firmly while clouds move gently across the sky. In Zen, this imagery reflects enduring strength, tranquility, and a mind free from worldly distractions. The second scroll features the Zen phrase “和敬清寂” (Wakei Seijaku), written by Kaiun Takebe, a high-ranking Buddhist priest (Daisojo) of Koyasan. The phrase means “Harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility.” These four principles form the spiritual foundation of the Japanese tea ceremony, as taught by the tea master Sen no Rikyu. They emphasize harmonious relationships, mutual respect, purity of heart, and inner stillness. Both works display expressive brushwork and reflect traditional Japanese spiritual values. They are suitable for display in a tea room, meditation space, or traditional Japanese interior. [ Condition ] There are some signs of age and use.
