Natsume - Schwarzer Lack, Holz - Vergoldeter Kiefernwald

【Item Description】
A fine Japanese natsume (tea caddy for powdered tea) in glossy black lacquer, decorated in gold maki-e with a bold design of pine trees. The pines are rendered in raised gold (takamaki-e), accompanied by delicate, flowing linear motifs in hiramaki-e. The lower body shades from deep black into a warm russet-red tone with a finely granulated, speckled texture, creating a striking sense of depth and atmosphere. The lid fits closely and cleanly, and the deep, mirror-like lacquer reflects light beautifully.

The piece is accompanied by its original wooden storage box (tomobako). The underside of the box lid bears a handwritten inscription, indicating that this is the work of a named craftsman. However, the artist has not been identified. Pine, a symbol of longevity and constancy, makes this a fitting choice for the tea ceremony and for any collection of Japanese lacquer art.
