[Product Description]

This is a piece of traditional Japanese Buddhist art: a statue of Kōbō Daishi housed within a *zushi* (a small, portable shrine) adorned with gold leaf.
Inside the gold-decorated *zushi* sits a figure of Kōbō Daishi, depicted in a seated posture as if engaged in prayer. The harmonious blend of subdued colors and gold ornamentation evokes the atmosphere of traditional Japanese Buddhist culture and faith.
A *zushi* is a traditional Japanese Buddhist ritual object used to house statues or paintings of Buddhist figures. Designed with doors that can be opened and closed, it serves to protect the image within while also functioning as a sacred object for veneration.
Kōbō Daishi is the honorific title for Kūkai, the founder of the Shingon school of Buddhism. He remains a pivotal figure in the history of Japanese Buddhism and continues to be deeply revered by many today.
This item is highly recommended for those with an interest in traditional Japanese Buddhist art, antique ritual objects, or religious craftsmanship. It makes an excellent addition to any collection and serves as a compelling decorative piece that reflects Japan’s spiritual culture and history.
We invite collectors with an interest in Japanese Buddhist culture, the veneration of Kōbō Daishi, traditional *zushi* shrines, or Buddhist art to consider this piece.
