Kamm (4) - Perlmutt, Lack - Meiji-Zeit

Kushi, Kogai and Kanzashi 4-Piece Set with Raden Peonies - Lacquer, Mother of Pearl - Japan - Meiji period A complete Japanese hair ornament set of four pieces, decorated in raden (mother-of-pearl inlay) on black lacquer, presented in its original round fabric-covered box. The set comprises: - A large kushi (comb) decorated with peonies, berries and foliage in bold, three-dimensional carved shell - A smaller kushi (comb) decorated with a delicate floral spray in flat raden inlay - A kogai (hairpin) with matching leaf and vine decoration at both ends - A kanzashi (hairpin) with red beads The two combs show the range of the Meiji raden tradition: one with sculptural carved shell figures that rise from the surface, the other with finely cut flat inlay.
