Vase - Porzellan - Japan - Kranenhalsflasche - Fujii Shumei 藤井朱明 (1936-2017)

Item Description This is an Arita ware vase (tsubo) by Fujii Shumei, a ceramicist and associate member of the Nitten (Japan Fine Arts Exhibition) who was based in Arita, Saga Prefecture. The work is titled "Tsurukubi Soshun" (Crane-Neck Early Spring), and is characterized by a slender, elongated neck resembling that of a crane, and a rounded, teardrop-shaped body. The body features a mountain range capped with snow and a coniferous forest rendered in fine brushwork using sometsuke (underglaze cobalt blue), evoking an early spring mountain landscape around the Arita area. The area from the neck to the shoulder is left in plain white porcelain, with a softly gradated band of blue applied, creating a striking contrast with the densely painted lower section. The artist's signature is inscribed on the foot rim. The item has never been used since purchase, and no notable scratches, cracks, or chips have been identified. Any reflections visible in the images are caused by the glossy glaze and lighting, and are not damage.
