Item Description A combined lot of 13 sets of pre-war Japanese tourist postcards (152 postcards in total). Each set is housed in its original printed paper sleeve (tatou). The sleeves feature colourful graphic designs typical of travel printed matter of the period, and some include bilingual titles in Japanese and English. The sets capture famous sights and leisure destinations from across Japan, including Dai-Hakone Thirty-Two Views, Enoshima, Kyoto Famous Views, Kanazawa Kenroku-en, Tojinbo, Shin-Wakanoura, Kawaji Onsen, Fuji Five Lakes, Ishiyama Hassen, Tsu City Famous Sights and Historic Sites, and Mano-miya Shrine, among others. The Hakone set consists of monochrome photographic postcards depicting Owakudani, Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji, the approach to Hakone Shrine, Soun-ji Temple, the Hayakumo-yama cable car, mountain streams, and more. The captions read "Kokuritsu Koen Hakone Meisho" (Hakone Scenic Spots, National Park), and a purple Hakone commemorative stamp (dated "11.6.25") has been applied. The reverse sides are divided in the "CARTE POSTALE" format, and the cards appear to be unused and unposted.
