Photographers in the Netherlands: a survey of commercial photographers born before 1900 based on data from the Dutch population administration, city directories and newspapers
Wachlin gathered the information concerning professional photographers in The Netherlands over the course of years. Both Dutch and foreign photographers. The information is based on the research on photos themselves (such as logos, addresses etc.), the resident register, address books and newspaper advertisements.
Besides the names, date of birth and passing (as far as known), also mentioned is the where and when of their activity. In many cases photos made by themselves are pictured, mostly portraits, though also often the rear of photos with basic information. The photographers are listed alphabetically according to the normal Dutch alphabet system. The overview is only of photographers born before 1900, this in line with the current privacy laws.
The book was published in 2011 in two continuously numbered bindings and a total number of more than 700 pp. It was published by three institutions: the The Hague Centraal Bureau voor Genealogie, the Rotterdam Nederlands Fotomuseum and the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie also in The Hague. The publication was open for subscription and a list of subscribers is printed in the back.
