CHERRIER & BESNUS A wonderful French art deco lamp in solid bronze made around 1926-1930. The base is of excellent quality. Nice fine detailed craftsmanship. The fabric shade is a new handmade replacement. 90 years old fabric shades are always in miserable condition. The lamp was made by the Paris France based company in bronze lighting fixtures Cherrier et Besnus. In 1926 monsieur E.Cherrier and the investor Besnus took over the company of René Massin at 36 Amelot street. Massin produced bronze lighting in a neo-classical and art nouveau style. Cherrier continued the production of these Massin products as well as introduced new designs in art deco style. The company opened a second larger workshop in Choisy. The art deco lamps of Cherrier & Besnus are well made items of excellent quality. The bronze base is stamped with the foundry initials RM (for René Massin). The bronze Cherrier used for the early production of lamp bases had an exceptionally high percentage of copper which gives these items a beautiful reddish colour. The lamp is 32,3 cm high. The oval shade is 20,5 cm long and 13,5 cm deep. The lamp is in very good condition. It is rewired with new cloth covered twisted cord and is equipped with a E14 socket so you can use our modern light bulbs for it. I will add a good quality LED bulb to the parcel.
