Lampe - Mahagoni oder Rosenholz - Chinesischer Drache

Chinese Mahogany or Rosewood 1920s Hand-Carved Dragon Table Lamp The lamp has an elaborately carved Chinese dragon's head which forms a gracefully curving arm. The dragon has detailed scales, a raised head, and likely symbolizes power, good fortune, and strength. The light fixture hangs from the dragon's mouth. The slender stem has carved open-work or scrolled elements, likely symbolic of clouds or traditional fretwork, about halfway down. The lamp sits on a circular, stepped base supported by short, carved, curving feet. The light source is housed in a frosted glass globe shade. The glass is etched with a decorative floral and scrolled motif patterns, which diffuses the light. The globe shade is suspended by the electrical cable from the dragon's head. The cable has a plug and a switch on it. The shade is probably not the original shade for this lamp but is vintage and period appropriate. This style of carved wooden dragon lamp with a hanging glass shade is typical of vintage Chinese export art, often dating to the early to mid-20th century (e.g., 1920s to 1950s), part of the Chinoiserie or Oriental Revival movements popular in Western decor. Condition: This is a well-preserved vintage item. The dark wood and the contrasting frosted glass create a striking and dramatic piece of decorative lighting. The wood is in excellent condition and beautifully patinated with no major cracks or missing pieces of carving. The frosted glass shade with its unique etching is in excellent condition. Dimensions: Height 71 cm, Base 22 cm diameter. Head 24 cm long The lot will be carefully packed and sent by registered and insured post with a track and trace number. It can also be collected from Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
